Lyle Frank Sellers, Sr., 85, of Austin, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Austin Medical Center. He was born Nov. 9, 1925, to Frank and Myrtle Sellers in Galt, Iowa where he grew up. The family moved to Minnesota, making their home in Austin where Lyle graduated Austin High School in 1944. After high school he worked at Hormel Foods before he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served with the Marines in Guam and in the Battle at Iwo Jima where he received a Purple Heart. Upon his honorable discharge from the Marine’s, Lyle returned to Austin and resumed working at Hormel Foods. He retired after more than 30 years and was an independent truck driver for 15 years. On May 19, 1948, he married Iva Del Riemann. The couple raised four beautiful children. After Iva Del’s death, Lyle married Ethel Mae Nicol on Jan. 7, 1995, in Austin. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the American Legion, VFW and Cedar River Country Club, he was in the Austin Bowling Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife Ethel Mae Sellers of Austin; two daughters, Judy (Sam) Skogeboe of Austin and Renee (Edwin) Wiegert of Osakis; two sons, David Sellers of Austin and Lyle (Sierra) Sellers Jr. of West Concord; step children, Bill Nicol, Lisa Widmayer, Chuck and Jean Nicol Jahren; 12 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Merlyn (Dolores) Sellers of Austin, Raymond (Karen) Sellers of Austin, Duane (Beverly) Sellers of Roanoke, Virginia and sister, Elsie Keyser of Inver Grove Heights; a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Iva Del and a sister, Clarissa More.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 6, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in Rose Creek Enterprise Cemetery, rural Austin with military rites by the United States Marine Corps. The family prefers memorials to donor’s choice.
