EAGLE GROVE, IA - Jodella Jorgina (Olson) Nelson Legvold, the daughter of Elmer and Gornelia (Peterson) Olson, Sr., was born January 17, 1914, in Thor, Iowa. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1932 and later attended Drake University. Jodella taught school in Otho for 15 years. On June 4, 1938, Jodella was united in marriage with Melvin Nelson of Vincent, in a double wedding ceremony with sister Elnor and Clifford Nelson, at the Badger Lutheran Church. The couple made their home and farmed near Vincent and Badger, before moving into Badger. The couple had two sons, Judine and Ronald. Melvin preceded her in death on September 1, 1970. Jodella married Justus (Jay) Legvold on September 11, 1976, living on a farm near Eagle Grove until 1978, when they moved to town. Jay also preceded her in death on December 29, 2010. Jodella was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church and associated with various church organizations. She also belonged to the Webster County Retired Teachers Association and Sons of Norway.

Jodella passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 97 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Willetta O'Brion. Survivors include her sons, Judine Nelson and wife Judy of Grove, OK and Ronald and wife Jackie of Seneca, MO; sisters: Elnor Nelson of Dixon, IL, Harriet Schonberger of Carroll and Laurine Nelson of St. Cloud, MN; brothers, Elmer and wife Shirley of Eagle Grove and Willard and wife Margaret of Harlan; five grandchildren: Bret Nelson, Curt Nelson, Wendy Steen, Jill Goetz and Kirsten Nelson; three great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren and three step-children and their families: Steven Legvold, Kathryn Marotz and James Legvold.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Darryl Landsverk officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Blossom Hill Cemetery in Badger. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
