ALGONA, IA - Helen Ethel Christopher, 90, of Algona, died Wednesday (Aug. 21, 2002) at the Algona Manor Care Center. Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Algona, with the Rev. Steven Turner of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Algona. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.

Helen Ethel Christopher was born July 22, 1912 in Rollo, Ill. to Alfred and Camilla Marker Peterson. Helen and Lyle Christopher were married Dec. 30, 1933 at Dows, Iowa. Helen died at Algona Manor on Aug, 21, 2002. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Lyle had 10 children, 23 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Helen is survived by all 10 children, Phyllis, Lyle Jr., Vila, Judith, Betty, Orville, Gerald, Mary, Larry, and Sherry. A sister, Agnes in Calif., also many nieces and nephews. Preceding Helen were her parents, her husband, Lyle, Sr., grandchildren, Kevin and Jodi, a sister Lillian, and 3 brothers, John, Andrew, and Elmer.

ALGONA - Funeral service for Helen Ethel Christopher, 90, was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 26, in the chapel of the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home. The Rev. Steven Turner of Trinity Lutheran Church officiated and burial was in Riverview Cemetery. Casket bearers were Edward Askvig, Rodney Christopher, Terrance Moore, Mitch Christopher, William Hill, Jr. and Rick Schutter.

Helen Ethel Paterson, daughter of Alfred and Camilla Marker Peterson, was born July 22, 1912, at Rollo, IL. She grew up at Dows, IA and graduated from Dows Community High School in 1933. Helen was married to Lyle Christopher, Sr. December 30, 1933 at Dows. They armed near New Virginia, IA, then lived at Goldfield, IA until retiring to Algona in the early 1980s. Her husband died in 1985.

Helen enjoyed raising flowers, sewing, doing embroidery and baking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen E. Christopher died Wednesday, August 21 (2002), in the Algona Manor where she had been a resident since 1994. She is survived by 10 children; Phyllis Burlingame, Lyle Christopher, Jr., Vila Armstrong and her husband, Calvin and Judy Eisenbacher, all of Algona; Betty Copp and her husband, Franklin, Eagle Grove; Orville Christopher and his wife, Ella, Pensacola, FL; Gerald Christopher and wife, Melanie, West Branch, IA; Larry Christopher and wife, Patricia, Omaha, NE; Mary Schulz, Whittemore; Sherry Fletcher and her husband, Jim, Kanawha. She has 23 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. One sister, Agnes Greaves of Hemet, CA also survives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandchildren, Kevin Armstrong and Jodi Christopher; a sister, Lillian Johnson; and three brothers, John, Andrew and Elmer Peterson.
