May 11, 1878 -- February 15, 1943
Reinhold Richard Lemke was born May 11, 1878 in Cacen, Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lemke. He came with his parents to the United States in the year 1883 and settled in Iowa. His entire life in the country, or 59 years, was spent in Liberty Township where he gave himself to farming; and having loved the farm he did his work well. He was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Straatman in the year 1904. This union was blessed with the birth of four children. They are; Walter and Reuben of Klemme, Mrs Carl W. (Meta) Bohn of Garner, and Mrs Leonard (Irene) Swanson of Klemme. There are also seven grandchildren. Besides his wife and children, he leaves to cherish his memory three brothers: Otto of Klemme, William and John of Garner; and two sisters: Mrs Will (Bertha) Beier of Goodell and Mrs. Eric (Anna) Clark of Clear Lake. One brother, Henry, and one sister, Lydia, preceded him in death. Mr. Lemke became a member of the Liberty Methodist Church in 1894, which membership he maintained to the end. He was also a member and fellow brother in Bethel Lodge No. 319 Ancient and Accepted Lodge of Free Masons of Garner. Brother Lemke was a worthy and respected member of the Liberty community, having around him a host of friends who shall look with sadness upon his departure. Interment in Concord Cemetery, Garner, Iowa.
