G. F. (Jerry) Whetsler, 91 of Springfield, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2011. He was born October 21, 1919 to Charles Franklin and Nellie Johanna (Johnson) Whetsler in Kanawha, Iowa. For 30 years, Jerry served in the United States Navy where he obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After retirement from the military in 1984, he worked 20 years for Webster Oil Co. Jerry enjoyed gardening, bingo, baseball and Nascar.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Betty; grandsons, Frankie Hill and Justin Hale; a granddaughter, Debra Hale; and three sisters. Jerry leaves behind daughters, Denice Hale and her husband, Harold and Susan Peck; grandson, Gerry Hough; great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Cody Hough.

Through the years Jerry was taller than any mountain with more pride than any Lion. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, April 17, 2011 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Jerry's home. Family has requested memorial donations be made in Jerry's name to either the American Cancer Society , 3322 S. Campbell, Springfield, MO 65807 or St. John's Hospice, 1570 W. Battlefield Ste. 110, Springfield, MO 65807.
