Carmen L. Caster age 73 of Bloomington, IL passed away at 12:30 PM on Monday, April 11, 2011 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, IL. Her service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington, IL. Pastors Knight Wells and Jim Reents will officiate. Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery, McLean, IL.Visitation will be 10:00 A.M-11:00 A.M. on Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington, IL. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington, IL or to the Community Cancer Center, Normal, IL. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL.

Carmen was born April 9, 1938 in Eagle Grove, Iowa the daughter of Joe and Marie Hallagan Gearhart. She married James "Jim" E. Caster on November 3, 1957 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He survives. Also surviving, Mother, Marie Gearhart, Eagle Grove, Iowa, 2 Children, Carrie (Jim) Taber, Normal, IL, Stephen (Sandy) Caster, Minneapolis, MN, 5 Grandchildren Katharine (Jon) McEldowney, Bloomington, IL, Charles (Kim) Taber, Bloomington, IL, Emily Taber, Spalding, Nebraska, Melissa Taber, Normal, IL, Becky Taber, Normal, IL, 2 Great Grandchildren, Kara and Will Taber, Bloomington, IL, 1 Sister, Diane (Denny) Shannon, Boone, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her father, 3 uncles and 2 aunts. Carmen earned her Associate Degree from Thornton Community College, South Holland, IL. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bloomington, IL. Carmen worked for S.W.C.C Co-op S.E. in Oak Forest, IL where she shared a real compassion for working with children with multiple disabilities. Carmen retired in 1995. She and her husband moved to Bloomington in 2001 to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Carmen enjoyed crocheting, counted cross stitch and baking. The family is grateful to the staff of the Community Cancer Center, Advocate BroMenn Hospital for the love and compassion shown to her.
