Ovid “Bud” Toresdahl – 91, West Des Moines
Ovid “Bud” Toresdahl was born in rural Wright County on May 21, 1919 to Bert and Ida (Berg) Toresdahl. He grew up attending country school in Wright County and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1938. During WW II he joined the US Army. He served in the China Burma India Theater where he was a truck driver with the 1891st Engineer Aviation Battalion hauling materials for the construction of roads and airfields. After the war, he returned to the Eagle Grove area where he spent most of his career farming and raising livestock. Upon retiring from farming, he moved to Fort Dodge where he was employed at the Standard All-Round Truck Stop for many years. Once he retired again, he discovered his love for the game of golf. He could be found daily on the course with his longtime golfing buddies. Ovid moved to West Des Moines to be closer to his family in 2004. Most recently he was living at Karen Acres Care Center in Urbandale.
Ovid passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2011. Ovid is preceded in death by his parents; brother Kenneth and son Scott. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Brett and Geleen (Reed) Toresdahl and granddaughters Haley & Hannah Toresdahl of West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Lutheran Lakeside Camp in Spirit Lake, Iowa or The Salvation Army’s Mobile Canteen in Des Moines, Iowa.
