February 25, 1918 - November 6, 2010

Edna M. Garnant age 92 of New Hampton died Saturday, November 6, 2010, at the New Hampton Care Center. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 11, 2010, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, New Hampton with Pastor Laura Hucke officiating. Interment will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery with Brett Ohm, Blake Ohm, Aaron Blatti, John Erickson, Brett Bailey and Eugene Schultz, Jr., serving as a pallbearers. Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to services at the church.

Edna Garnant was born February 25, 1918, in Kanawha, IA, the youngest child of Nicholas and Laura (Pehl) Veldhouse. She had four older brothers, Dick, George, Jim, and Paul Veldhouse. Edna attended Iowa State University and on December 21, 1942, married Loran Garnant of Britt, IA. They lived in LeRoy, Minnesota, and Waterloo, Iowa, before moving to New Hampton in 1958. Here Edna became an active member of the Women's Club, Eastern Star, Meals on Wheels, was a docent for the New Hampton Cultural Center and was on the board of directors for the New Hampton Food Pantry. She was integral to the creation of Garnant Park. Edna was also active in managing her farm until her death.

Edna is survived by her daughters; Jackie (John) Erickson of St. Paul, MN, Marlene Garnant of Houston, along with grandchildren, Brett Bailey of the Cayman Islands, and Brooke Bailey of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Loran on September 22, 1978 at the age 59; four brothers.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the New Hampton Food Pantry, the New Hampton Cultural Center, or the church of choice. Cemetery: New Hampton City Cemetery, 253 S. Maple Street, New Hampton, IA
