Joan Kathryn (Lickteig) Elbert, 80, passed away peacefully at KC Hospice House on Thursday, December 30, 2010. Born on January 21, 1930, in Lu Verne, IA, she was the daughter of Ambrose and Rose (McMahon) Lickteig. She attended St. Benedict School, graduated from St. Cecelia high school in 1948, and worked for NW Bell Telephone Co. from 1950 to 1961. Jo married Paul J. Elbert on September 3, 1960, and moved to Corwith to farm in 1961. Paul and Jo then farmed in Lu Verne from 1961 until retiring to Algona in January, 1994. Jo is survived by her husband of 50 years and her three children; Ann (Robert) Bunn of Durham, NC; Rob (Debbie) Elbert of Shawnee, KS; and Craig (Ann) Elbert of Overland Park, KS. Grandchildren are Christopher, Justin, Henry, Claire, Ryan, Mitchell, Charles, Peter and Rose. Siblings are Sr. Joan Lickteig, Dubuque, IA; Charlie (Helen) Lickteig, Algona, IA; Don (Evelyn) Lickteig, Algona, IA; Mary Lickteig, Omaha, NE; and Tim Lickteig, Pittsburgh, PA. Jo enjoyed sewing, gardening, flowers, playing bridge, needle crafts but most of all, her children and grandchildren.

The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 3, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W. 143rd St. Olathe, KS 66062. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, January 2, at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia Lenexa, KS, with the Rosary being prayed at 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Christian Foundation for Children & Aging, 1 Elmwood Avenue, Kansas City, KS 66103.
