January 6, 1931 -- April 17, 1999

Bernard Muus Martinson, age 68 of Howard Lake, passed away at his home Saturday, April 17, 1999. Bernard was born Jan. 6, 1931, to Oliver and Nelia Neuman Martinson in Corwith, Iowa. The family grew up in Clarion and Faribault, Minn. After graduating from Faribault High School, Bernard attended one year of college at St. Olaf. He then entered the Air Force in 1950, serving until 1954. Upon returning home, Bernard worked for a time at McQuay, an air-conditioning unit manufacturing company. He then moved to Crosby, Minn., where he purchased Lakeview Grocery. Since retiring in the early 1990s, Bernie lived with his son, Brian, in the Cokato and Howard Lake area.

He is survived by five children: Brian, Becky, Blaine, Bridget, and Barbie; grandchildren: Holly, Alex, Meghan, and Danny; and brothers: Oliver, Jim and David. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donnelly.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 20, 1999, 1 p.m., at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Howard Lake, Minn., with the Rev. Joel Swedberg officiating.
