RAYMOND, IA -- Dale L. Ruiter, 70, of Raymond, formerly of Meservey, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 28, at Retz Funeral Home, 201 Ohio St., Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester of Meservey Reformed Church presiding. Interment will be at Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. today at Retz Funeral Home, Meservey.

Dale L. Ruiter was born on July 4, 1940, in Meservey, a son of Fred and Tena (Gruis) Ruiter. He was baptized in the Reformed faith in Meservey Reformed Church. Dale received his education in the Meservey School and later moved with his parents to Grafton where he graduated from high school. Dale then attended and graduated from Mason City Junior College. He then worked at Wareco Gas Station in Mason City for a number of years. Dale then moved to Waterloo and worked for Iowa Drywall as office manager, retiring five years ago. Dale enjoyed a few great years at the place he loved most: Prairie du Chien, Wis., where he had a trailer and went boating. When illness set in and tests revealed a rare bone disorder called myelofibrosis. With many hospital stays and the best and loving care by Jack Sloane and Steve Ruiter, Dale was called home to be with God on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 70 years of age.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents: Fred and Tena Ruiter. Living family members include his brother: LuVern (Dorothy) Ruiter, Thornton; four sisters: Mrs. Viola Kessler, Meservey; Mrs. Leona Orvick, Forest City; Mrs. Maurine (Don) Nash, Lady Lake, Fla. and Diane Ruiter, Nora Springs; special friends: Steve Reiter and family, Waterloo, and Jack Sloane and family, Hiawatha; many other friends, nieces and nephews. Retz Funeral Home, Meservey.
