Katherine Ann Gesme was born Sept 8, 1926 in Emmons, MN to Anna Katherine and Adolph Leonar Gesme. Anna died in childbirth. Adolph married Edna Claine Trytten who helped to raise Katherine. Katherine shared her parents with Don, and Lorraine. Kay attended School and graduated from High School in 1944 in Emmons, MN. May 23, 1948, Kay received her nursing degree after attending St Olaf and Fairview. Her first job nursing was at St Luke's Hospital in Fargo, ND. She shared an apartment with friends from school and her landlady was her future husband's mother. Kay and Maurice Lykke were married March 19, 1949 at Emmons Lutheran Church. They had 5 children, Mark, Paul, Craig, Keith and Ruth Ann. Craig died after 3 months and was buried March 17, 1953 in Ringsted, Iowa at St Paul's Cemetery. They lived in Fargo until 1950, when they moved to Irwin, Ia(1950-1951. They lived several different places: Carroll, IA 1951; Ringsted, IA 1951-1953; Fargo, ND 1953-1956; Irwin, IA 1956-1957; Independence, IA 1957-1958, LeMars, IA 1958-1959/ Guthrie Center, IA 1959-1966; Goldfield, IA 1966-1970; Eagle Grove, IA 1970-1971; Malvern, IA 1971-1973; and Wayne, NE 1973-1984, where Maurice retired. They moved to Elk Horn, IA 1984 and they returned to Fargo, ND 1997. Kay was an active individual in the community, church, school, hospital, rest homes, and other such activities.

Survived by her husband; brother, Don (Dorothy) Gesme, Naples, FL. Brother-in-law, Spencer (Mary) Honsey, Burlington, IA. Three Sons and one Daughter: Mark (Fae) Lykke, Spencer, IA; Paul (Diana) Lykke, Omaha, NE; Keith (Gwendy) Lykke, Gaithersburg, MD; Ruth (Richard) Curtis, Moorhead, MN. Nine Grandchildren: Natane (Michael) Sadusky, Suzanne (Thom) Mendlik, Sarah (Eric) Hughes, Wendy (Jeremy) Lamb, Jason Romey, Niels Lykke, Kristina Lykke, Jacob Curtis, and Jared Curtis. Four Great-Grandchildren: Sydney Saducky, Christian Mendlik, Garrison Medlik, and Madyson Hughes. Preceded in death by her parents, her step mother, her sister, Lorraine Honsey ad son Craig. Kay will be buried alongside her son Craig at St Paul's Cemetery, Ringsted, Iowa.
