Trisha Wood, age 17, of Sheldon, Iowa, daughter of Todd and Deanna Wood, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011, as the result of a vehicle accident.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa. Rev. John Vermeer officiating. Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will be Monday, February 14, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.

Trisha Lynn Wood was born on October 4, 1993, in Clarion, Iowa. She is the daughter of Todd and Deanna (Verbrugge) Wood. Since the age of two, Trisha lived in Sheldon, Iowa. She attended Sheldon Christian Grade School and was a junior at Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa. She was involved in many activities at school including; manager of the cross country team, soccer player, student council member, band, jazz band, choir and Chamber Singers.

Trisha was a baptized member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa, where she was involved with the Young Peoples Society and the Nursery Committee. She had a strong Christian faith. Trisha was employed at Downtown Hardware Hank in Sheldon. She was proud to be a volunteer Jr. Fire Fighter in Sheldon. Trisha enjoyed hanging out with her friends. She also enjoyed doing Sudoku. She was a driven person. She will be remembered for her self-giving personality and for putting other peoples happiness before her own.

She passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011, near Sheldon, Iowa, as the result of a vehicle accident.

Those left to cherish her memories are her parents: Todd and Deanna Wood of Sheldon, IA; sister: Kristin Wood of Sheldon, IA; brother and sister-in-law: Justin and Jodi Wood of Sheldon, IA; grandparents: Willis Wood of Britt, IA, Donald and Deloris Verbrugge of Kanawha, IA; aunts and uncles: Randy and Donna Ehlers, Deb and Dave De Jong, Doug and Terri Verbrugge, Gary and Terry Osby, Tim and Siobhan Wood; 15 cousins; her special friend: Justin Zandstra and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Dixie Wood of Britt, IA.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials would be appreciated. Memorials can be dropped off at the City of Sheldon offices during their normal business hours. Andringa Funeral Home.

SHELDON, Iowa — A 17-year-old Sheldon girl is dead after a crash Friday morning on Iowa 18, one-half mile west of Sheldon.

Trisha Wood was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile 88 Royale westbound at approximately 7:15 a.m., when she lost control and entered the eastbound lane, striking a 2003 Freightliner semi tractor pulling a loaded grain trailer head-on.

Wood was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, Mark Breuer, 36, of Rock Valley, Iowa, was not injured. The semi sustained approximately $25,000 in damage, while the car sustained major damage. Wood was wearing her seatbelt, while Breuer was not.

Assisting the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Sheldon Police Department, O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Sheldon Fire Department and the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.
