8 April 1910 -- 13 January 2002

URBANDALE, IOWA - Celia M. Sibert, 91, formerly of Mason City, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2002) at Karen Acres Healthcare Center, Urbandale. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church. A graveside service with burial following will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. Major Erickson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 8th and Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265.

Celia M. Sibert was born April 8, 1910, in rural Belmond, the daughter of Edward and Genevra (Penney) Ersland. She attended school in Belmond. She was united in marriage to Alva F. Sibert on Aug. 21,1930, in Belmond. In 1941 they moved to Mason City, where they made their home until moving to Phoenix in 1975. In 1990 they moved to West Des Moines to be closer to family. Celia was a previous member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mason City and a current member of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church in West Des Moines. She was also a member of the Women's Fellowship and the Older Boulder in Phoenix, Ariz. She enjoyed traveling, canning, baking, ceramics and sewing. She looked forward to spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Carol Lievrouw of Arlington, Texas; her sons, Arlon Sibert and wife, Suzan, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dennis Sibert and wife, Sharon, of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Merle Dean and David Lee; four brothers and four sisters. Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory.
