Richard D. Venner, 71, of Williams, died Monday, April 4, 2005 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #633 of Williams.

Richard D. Venner, son of Henry and Rena Tapper Venner, was born August 12, 1933 on a farm north of Blairsburg. He attended a rural school north of Blairsburg and graduated from Blairsburg high school in 1950. He started farming with his father. During the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Army in a guided missiles company. Following his discharge, he returned to farming. On June 25, 1960 he married Marilyn Boor at the Vernon Lutheran Church at Dows. The couple farmed in the Blairsburg and Williams area until 1992. He then started working at Growmark Seed which later became Remington Seed. They moved to Williams in 1987.

Richard is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Venner of Blairsburg; Gary and Nichole Venner of Williams; grandchildren, Steven, Kimberly and Natasha Venner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Eleanor and Raymond Hanson of Webster City; Thelma and Earl Boss and Barbara Venner all of Ames; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Steven Richard Venner in 1961; brother, William Henry Venner in 1947.

He was a member of the Vernon Lutheran Church and was a trustee and council member. He also served in many other tasks in his church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #633 of Williams.
