Robert G. Arends, 79, of Webster City, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2006 at the Hamilton Hospital. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Presbyterian Cemetery, Kamrar with Rev. Pete Peterson officiating. There will be no visitation. Foster Funeral & Cremation Center has been entrusted with arrangements.
Robert George Arends, son of George and Louise Hassebrock Arends was born on July 2, 1927 at Kamrar. He graduated from Kamrar High School. He enrolled at the University of Dubuque where he earned his Bachelors Degree. He also graduated from the Presbyterian Seminary in Dubuque. Robert was in the ministry for over 23 years. He served churches in Kelsey, West Bend, Roedman and Manilla, Iowa. He also served as Interim minister at Clarion for 14 months. During his ministry, one year was spent doing mission work in Arizona and one year was spent as an assistant chaplain at the Mental Health Institute at Independence. In addition to his ministry, he served a term as the moderator of the northwest Presbyterian Council in Sioux City and was commissioner to the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Portland, Oregon. Due to illness in his family, he returned to the family farm at Blairsburg in which he managed for 14 years. He had also worked at Country Meadows for over 4 years until his retirement.
Mr. Arends was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Roger Arends. He is survived by many cousins and was a member of the Kamrar Presbyterian Church.
