March 13, 1928 --- June 2, 2005

VaLora Hanson, 77, Urbandale, died June 2, 2005 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pence-Reece Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, at 4 p.m. Visitation is Monday after 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

VaLora Mesecher, daughter of James B. and F. Pearl Paine Mesecher, was born March 13, 1928 in Webster City. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1945. She married Lloyd L. Hanson at Webster City Jan. 19, 1947. The couple lived in Eagle Grove, Webster City and Minneapolis prior to moving to Newton Nov. 11, 1960. She was a homemaker and worked for Hanson Directory Services, Inc. in Newton. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Newton. She loved her family and enjoyed playing bridge and traveling.

Mrs. Hanson is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William L. and Monica Hanson of Johnston; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Ronald Smith of Fort Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren, Matthew, Aaron, Adam, Lara and Veronica; a great-granddaughter, Kristen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd L. Hanson on July 25, 1993; a son Dennis Hanson on July 18, 1983; two brothers, Ivan in infancy and Gerald Mesecher.
