ALGONA, IA - Florence Elizabeth Grandgenett, 83, of 2221 E. McGregor St., died Sunday (Dec. 26, 1999) at Algona Manor Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wesley, with the Rev. Lynn Bruch officiating. Burial will be in St. Benedict Cemetery, St. Benedict. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Wesley.

Florence was born Sept. 20, 1916, at Villard, Minn., the daughter of Ernest John Widen and Elizabeth Cecelia (Halligan) Widen. She attended school in Corwith and graduated from Corwith High School. After three years training she also graduated from St. Joseph Mercy Nursing Training. She worked at Mercy for a year. Florence married Joseph John Grandegenett Feb. 14, 1939 in Corwith. After their marriage, they moved to a farm west of Corwith and lived there for 43 years. In March of 1982, they moved into Wesley. She worked at St. Ann and Kossuth County Hospital for 29 years. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and her family. Florence was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Daughters of America and the Guild at St. Joseph's Church in Wesley. She was a member of the Alumni Nursing Association in Mason City and the Kossuth Regional Health Center and the Hospital Auxiliary in Algona. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Wesley.

She is survived by four daughters, Judy Green and her husband, Jon, Lakeshore, Minn., Jane Franki and her husband, Mike, of Irvington, Mary Cruise and her husband, Bill, Wesley, and Alice Simons and her husband, Bob, of Carroll; two sons, Robert Grandgenett, Britt, and David Grandgenett and his wife, Lorrie, Grimes; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Settle, Cedar Falls. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph John Grandgenett; her father, John Widen; her mother, Elizabeth Cecelia Halligan, brothers, Verne, Dale, Charles, Donald, James, Gene, Ben, and infant, John; and sisters, Helen Wickert and Mary Haverct.
