Following a courageous battle with cancer, Doris went home to be with her heavenly father on January 19, 2011. Doris Irene was born in Lake City, Iowa on November 22 to Frank and Gladys McIntire, and was the youngest of three children. Doris graduated from Lake City High School in 1956. While in high school, she worked at the local movie theatre and maintained her love of films and movies throughout her life, with an uncanny ability to recall names of actors and movies.
Doris also worked as an administrative assistant & bank teller; in the farm mortgage division of Met Life; and as an office manager for the grain elevator. She retired from working at the age of 36 from Wright County Farmers Elevator in Clarion, Iowa. Known for her generosity, Doris gave of herself in many ways – including volunteering for several organizations, logging in over 14,000 volunteer hours at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN. She continued to volunteer in Tampa, Florida with the food bank at her church.
You rarely saw Doris without her beautiful smile and her wonderful laughter would brighten everyone’s day. She took great joy playing bridge and belonged to several different bridge groups. Doris had a beautiful sense of humor, which remained throughout her final days. Her love of family, people and laughter is very apparent – not to mention her gift of hospitality. Everyone around Doris felt her love and her love of life. Another uncanny ability she had was to recall phone numbers of her family & friends – Doris could recall over 300 phone numbers – what a memory!!
