July 12, 1936 -- December 23, 2010

Albert C. Hasbrouck of Emmetsburg died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. He was 74. Doc was born July 12, 1936, in Goldfield, the son of Earl and Laura (Kennedy) Hasbrouck. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict. On March 9, 1963, Doc Hasbrouck and Donna Lee Sass were married in Wright County. Doc retired from Hagie manufacturing in Clarion after more than 25 years of employment as a machinist. He came out of retirement to serve as a Correctional Officer at the maximum security facility in Fort Dodge. At the time of his successful completion of the course, Doc was the oldest person to graduate from the Correctional Officer Training Academy.

Doc, in his own words, was a Jack of all Trades, Master of None. His interests were wide and varied - from the thoughtful pursuit of writing poetry to craftwork like the custom building of knives, black powder guns and making buckskin garments. From time to time he dabbled in wine making. He enjoyed a little wood working on the side as well. Doc was a dedicated family man who worked hard in order to spend time with his family. He had an immense love of the outdoors that included hunting, trapping, fishing and camping. He was able to pass this passion of anything outdoors on to his children and grandchildren, whether it was an organized sport or just being out in the fresh air and sunshine.

Survivors include three children: Darren and Tammy Hasbrouck of Emmetsburg, Dawn and Charlie Relph of Albia and Danielle Hasbrouck of Emmetsburg; six grandchildren: D.J., Amy, Madison, Darrah, Nichole and Keegan; and three great grandchildren: Brennan, Trinity and Aurora. Also surviving are a brother, Dave Hasbrouck of Hesperia, CA; and three sisters, Earleen Hulshizer of Williford, AR, Elizabeth Walper of Rogue River, OR, and Mary Jo Reichling of Winchester, WI. Mr. Hasbrouck was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Hasbrouck; and his parents.

Memorial services will be held in the spring. Mr. Hasbrouck's ashes will be put by his wife in Goldfield.
