Mrs. J. E. Hewitt, 56, Dies Suddenly; Services Thursday
Moved to Nora Springs From Farm Just 2 Weeks Before Death

Mrs. J. E. Hewitt, 56, died very suddenly at 3:15 a.m. Monday morning, Feb. 14, within a few moments after being stricken by a heart attack. Her death came as a great shock to her family and friends, coming as it did without warning. Mrs. Hewitt having been in her usual good health when she retired the previous evening.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1:45 at the Hewitt home and at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church with the pastor the Rev. Robert Davies, in charge of the rites. Mrs. Ralph Bahnsen and Mrs. Glen Gast had charge of the floral arrangements. Interment was in Park cemetery east of Nora Springs.

Mrs. Hewitt, nee Martha Van Dusseldorp, was born August 10, 1887 in Marion county, near Pella. She was the eldest in a family of seven daughters and four sons of Peter and Mary Riercrook Van Dusseldorph. While she was a child she moved to Jasper county with her parents. And it was in Jasper county on December 21, 1904, that her marriage to J. E. Hewitt took place. The Hewitts farmed there for about four years and then moved to the Kanawha. They lived in the Kanawha vicinity until they moved to Nora Springs community in the spring of 1931-- 13 years ago, farming north of town until just two weeks ago when they moved to Nora Springs, leaving the farm for the first time since their marriage 39 years ago.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Wilma--Mrs.Curtis Duncan of St. Ansgar; two sons, Elmer Hewitt and Edward Hewitt both of Nora Springs; seven grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Peter Van Dusseldorp of Kanawha, four brothers, Jake and Neil of Britt, Engel of Wesley and Leonard of Sheffield; and five sisters, Mrs. Jake Folkerts of Britt; Mrs. Fred Wieland of Kanawha, Mrs. Ed Anderson of Corwith, Mrs. John Veldhouse and Mrs. Ernie Nelson, both of Kanawha. She was preceded in death by one sister, Miss Nellie Van Dussledorph, and a daughter Mrs. Mary Callahan.

Pallbearers at the service were Gus Lunde, Fred Zastrow, Martin Field, Glen Gast, Ben Deets and Lloyd Held.
