EAGLE GROVE - Helen Lucille (Shaw) Hill, was born July 12, 1924, in Moorland, Iowa, the daughter of Robin Adair and Mary Bernadine (Taylor) Shaw. She was raised and educated in Eagle Grove. On December 31, 1941, Helen was united in marriage with Elliott Hill in Stanton, Nebraska and then moved to Eagle Grove shortly thereafter. Helen worked as an LPN at Rotary Ann Nursing Home for 24 years, retiring in 1985. One of her many lifetime achievements was serving as a volunteer EMT for many years. Helen was an active member of First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove. She enjoyed wintering in Brownsville, Texas, traveling to Mexico and mystery bus tours. Helen's hobbies included camping, fishing, bowling, crocheting gifts for her family and being a loyal Chicago Cubs fan.
Helen enjoyed her great neighbors, friends and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her love of life and extraordinary sense of humor. Age was never a factor for Helen, to name a few of the fun things wearing a clown costume at age 83, winning the "Crazy Legs" contest at age 79 and becoming an official "Polar Bear" at age 80!
Helen passed away at her home on Sunday, January 16, 2011, surrounded by her family, at the age of 86 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, "Ike" Elliott; one brother and two sisters. Survivors include her children: Larry Hill and wife Patti of Ackley, Terry Hill and wife Suzie of Rubicon, WI, Mary Hill of Pocahontas, Randy Hill and wife Marla of Eagle Grove, Bob Hill and wife Kathy of Eagle Grove and Richard Hill of Fort Dodge; nine grandchildren: Eddy Hill, Tom Hill (Jessica), Kari Trzinski (Ryan), Michele Hanson (Eric), Ryan Hill (Jenny) David Hill, Matthew Hill, Kirstie Hill and Alanna Hill; five great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Logan, Sarah, Grace and Paige; two brothers, Robert and Jim Shaw and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Dr. Fran Pettigrew officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
