Ruth Leite — Volga
March 21, 1923 – July 12, 2010

Ruth Leite, 87, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m, Friday at First Lutheran Church in Volga. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.

Ruth Isabelle (Jorenby) Leite was born March 21, 1923, at Volga to John and Isabelle (Anderson) Jorenby. Ruth grew up and attended school in Volga. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On June 24, 1944, Ruth married Marvin Leite at her mother’s home in Volga. They farmed on the family farm northwest of Volga and raised six children. From 1966 to 1974 Ruth worked as a secretary for the SDSU English Department. Ruth was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, gardening, playing Scrabble and card games. Ruth also enjoyed meeting and visiting with friends over a cup of coffee.

She is survived by her children: Steve (Melody Tenhoff) of Rush City, Minn., Judy (Ron ) Kopren of Rapid City, Dale (Kris) Leite of Volga, Paul (Beth) Leite of Sauk Rapids, Minn., Mark Leite of Volga and Tom (Rena) Leite of Rapid City; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters-in law, Clarice Kendall of Sioux Falls, Avis Leite of Volga and LuAnn Cavanaugh of Brookings; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Pearl Swiggum and Leona Leite; and six brothers: Norman, Raymond, Marvin, Everett, Harold and Oliver and an infant brother.
