HUMBOLDT, IA — Roger D. Friesth, 71, of Humboldt, passed away December 7, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. J.K. Raether and Rev. Aaron Flatau officiating. Interment with full military rites will be in Union Cemetery Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Me. Friesth is survived by his wife, DeAnn Friesth of Humboldt; children, Lisa (Brian) Spellmeyer of Humboldt, Jeff (Carmella) Friesth of Humboldt, Greg (Cindy) Friesth of Adel, Angie (Mike) Vitzthum of Humboldt, and Mike (Patrice) Friesth of Webster City; grandchildren, Will (Carrie) Spellmeyer, Abby Spellmeyer, Morgan, Lauren, Hannah, and Ian Friesth, Brittany, Casey, Dakota, Evan, and Anna Friesth, Amy (Ty) Slater, Andy (Kari) Vitzthum, Austin, Adam, and Alex Vitzthum, and Stevie, Nathaniel, and Michaela Friesth; great grandchildren, Hunter and Tucker Vitzthum and Layla Slater; sisters, Darlene (Larry) Bloomquist of Branson, MO, and Bonnie (John) Masdea of Columbus, OH; and brothers, Bruce (Tammy) Friesth, Paul (Debbie) Friesth, and Rod (Regina) Friesth all of Badger. His parents preceded him in death.
Roger Dean Friesth, the son of Bertram and Ruth (Knutson) Friesth, was born June 18, 1936 on the family farm near Badger. He received his education in a country school a mile from his home and graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1954. Following his education, Roger served in the United States Army stationed in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1957. He was united in marriage to DeAnn Wienke on October 18, 1958 at the Badger Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm 4 miles north of Badger until moving to their present home in 1961. Roger farmed his entire life and his farming operations included cattle which he enjoyed showing at the Iowa State Fair. He was an active 4-H leader and a member of the Humboldt County Fair Board where he served as past president He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and a Luther League Sponsor and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing, and woodworking. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and helping them with building projects.
