CLARION, IA - Michael Anthony Hanken, 46, of Clarion, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at the Dumont Care Center in Dumont. Michael was born in Oelwein on Sept. 16, 1964 to parents Donald and Diana (Davis) Hanken. He was a longtime resident at Krysilis in Clarion, where he had many friends. Michael touched many people's lives throughout his life. Many entered his life as caregivers, but quickly became life long friends. Even though Michael spoke no words, he expressed himself very well through his famous facial expressions - always enjoying the reaction he got from others. Michael's many hobbies included watching Nascar races, black and white movies and comedies, especially those featuring Jim Carey. During his free time he loved looking at various magazines. His biggest love was cruising wearing his sunglasses, and asked to do that every chance he got. He was the happiest being the center of attention, and made friends wherever he went. In a word … Unforgettable!!

Left to cherish Michael's memory is his mother Diana Hanken of Marshalltown; his brothers, Doug (Kim) Hanken of Marshalltown, Matt (Nancy) Hanken of Plymouth, Minn., and Steve (Barb) Reinke of Stillwell, Kan.; his sister Cindy (John) Bru of Marshalltown; 12 nieces and nephews; as well as his many, many friends at Krysilis. In death, Michael has rejoined his grandparents and his father Donald Hanken.

Memorials may be made in Michael's honor to his family. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein.
