LEWIS SHROYER DEAD
A Popular Old Settler Passes To His Long RestLewis Shroyer, living just south of the city, died suddenly last Monday morning of apoplexy. He had been in his usual good health the day before and was feeling well when he retired for the night, but about 4:00 a.m. members of the family heard him breathing in an unusual manner and went to his room, only to see him pass away to that unknown land.
Mr. Shroyer was born in West Virginia on December 26th, 1832, and when a child moved with his parents to the state of Indiana. In 1855 he came to Franklin county and has been a resident of the county ever since, having lived on the farm on which he died since 1865. He was married on November 2nd to Miss Joan Jones, and invitations had been issued for the celebration of their golden wedding on Friday of next week, and all friends of the family looked forward to a very happy event. Mr. Shroyer was one of the most honorable men that ever lived and during his long residence in this county his every acquaintance made have only good words to say of him. He loved his family and his friends and was always ready with a helping hand for those in need. Besides his wife, Mr. Shroyer leaves four children, as follows: D. W. Shroyer and M. L. Shroyer, of Reeve township; V. E. Shroyer, of Dows, and Mrs. Clara Green, of Alexander.
The funeral services were held at the late home yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. T. Gruwell, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Hampton cemetery.
