Correna Balsley, Santa Rosa, Calif.
Correna (Corky) Balsley passed away Wednesday December 15th at her home in Santa Rosa, California. Corky, was born in 1941 in California. She spent the first half of her life as a hair dresser. She met and married the love of her life, Dan Balsley in 1972. Corky and Dan moved to Iowa where she spent many years running her own beauty shop in Woolstock, Iowa. She then spent numerous years driving semi trucks across the country with Dan and working in industrial plants. However of all her careers, she loved her job as a Wal-Mart greeter in Ames, Iowa the most. She often talked of her work friends and she loved giving stickers to the children. During her time with Wal-Mart, she earned the Wal-Mart Greeter of the Year the last several years that she worked there. Corky moved back to California in 2009 where she retired from working and became the unofficial greeter at Villa Capri Community. She spent many hours improving her art skills, taking walks, enjoying times out with her daughter Jennifer. She thrived on developing her friendships with fellow community members at Villa Capri and provided assistance and support whenever she saw a need.
Corky enjoyed cooking and loved good food, especially orange sherbet. Her love of cats was unparalleled. Her favorite Christmas present came from Theresa, her daughter, which was a kitty cat blanket. She spent her spare time watching NCIS and nature shows on TV. Corky had a huge heart and a wonderful smile that could light up a room.
Corky was preceded in death by her husband, Dan, mother Vye White and sister Vicki Dennis and brother-in-law, Mert Balsley. She is survived by her daughters, Theresa Holland and Jennifer Heiser and their husbands, Jeff Holland and Chad Heiser, grandson, Devin Nordin; brother in laws, Arnold and Harlen Balsley; mother's husband, Norm White; nieces, Teresa Assing, Bridgette Dockstader, Gina Barnsdale, Tammy Johnson; nephew John Balsley and their families.
