GOLDFIELD, IA - Kathryn M. Hansen, 85, of Goldfield, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at Careage of Clarion. On July 20, 1947, Kathryn was united in marriage with John E. Hansen. They lived in Eagle Grove and Ottosen, returning to the family farm near Goldfield in 1950 and made their home there until John's death in 2001. Survivors include her son, Mark Hansen and wife Arlys of Manchester; daughters, Karen Randall and husband Phil of Martelle and Jane Brown and husband Kent of LeMars; five grandsons; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Hansen of Goldfield; a brother-in-law, Robert Hansen of West Liberty.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2010, 11 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with Pastor Sara Hill officiating. Visitation is Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Memorials may be left to the United Presbyterian Church or Public Health and Hospice of Wright County.

Kathryn Mabel Hansen, the daughter of Magnus and Mabel (Paine) Hansen, was born near Goldfield, Iowa, on February 6, 1925. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Goldfield High school in 1942. Kathryn then attended Hamilton Business School in Mason City and worked as a secretary in Cedar Rapids and Eagle Grove. On July 20, 1947, Kathryn was united in marriage with John E. Hansen. They lived in Eagle Grove and Ottosen, returning to the family farm near Goldfield in 1950 and made their home there until John’s death in 2001. Kathryn then moved into Goldfield.

Kathryn was a lifelong member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, serving as the church organist for more than 50 years. She also was a member of the Evergreen Association, Oakridge Recreation, Bayview Study Club, and the Emma Henry Circle at her church. She gave piano lessons in her home for over 45 years, touching the lives of several young people during that time.

Kathryn passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at Careage of Clarion, at the age of 85 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; two brothers; three nieces and two nephews. Survivors include her son, Mark Hansen and wife Arlys of Manchester; daughters, Karen Randall and husband Phil of Martelle and Jane Brown and husband Kent of LeMars; five grandsons: Casey Hansen (Amber), Kyle Hansen (Jessica), Matt Brown (Jodi), David Brown (Alejandra) and Jason Brown (Lindsay); two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Sarah Brown; a brother, Robert Hansen of Goldfield; a brother-in-law, Robert Hansen of West Liberty and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with Pastor Sara Hill officiating. Visitation is Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.
Memorials may be left to the United Presbyterian Church or Public Health and Hospice of Wright County.
