Berdell J. Staab, 83, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Vinton Lutheran Home, following a brief illness. He was admitted to the facility December 8th. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 20, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with Rev. Clarke E. Frederick officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery in Newhall. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 AM until service time on Monday. A memorial fund has been established. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Berdell was born April 11, 1927 at Van Horne to Howard and Anna (Froelich) Staab. On September 9, 1950 he was united in marriage to Joyce Bistline at Clarion, Iowa. He was employed as a machinist at Iowa Manufacturing for forty-one years and farmed near Van Horne. An active member of Trinity Lutheran Church he attended the Men's Bible Study, enjoyed fellowship in the Fireside Club and served as an Elder for many years. In his leisure he enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing and fishing.
Berdell is survived by his wife of over sixty years, Joyce of Van Horne; his sons, Roy (Lois) Staab of Cedar Rapids, David (Kim) Staab of Vinton, and Gerald Staab of Vinton; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; his sister, Selma Kaiser of Vinton; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kenneth Staab, his sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Keith Weekley; his brother-in-law, Glenn Kaiser; and his daughter-in-law, Charlene Staab.
