November 15, 1913 -- August 23, 1984

Mabel E. Van Dien, 70, of 3524 Villa Knolls, Las Vegas, Nev., died at 3 a.m. Thursday at her home. She had been in failing health since May. She was born Nov. 15, 1913 in Corwith, Iowa to Nicholas and Charlotte Fox Kelch. She lived in the Rochester community until moving to Las Vegas 11 years ago. She was married April 23, 1939 in Rochester to Bert Van Dien, who survives. She had worked for the Rochester Telephone Co., Schultz Brothers Department Store, The Book Store, and the former Armour Co. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Las Vegas. Surviving with the husband are eight sisters, Sarah Lallier, Algona, Iowa; Tillie Matz, Wesley, Iowa; Mrs. Melvin (Mary) Perkins, Bloomington, Ill.; Mrs. Edwin (Cecelia) Ice, Hayward, Calif.; Margaret Anderson, Clarion, Iowa; Alice Hague, Castro Valley, Calif.; Mrs. Donald (Lorrana “Tiny”) Polk, Denver, Colo., and Veronica Kelch, of Missouri, and five brothers, Julius Kelch, Chandler, Ariz.; Vincent and John Kelch, both of Bloomington, Ill.; Charles Kelch, Marshalltown, Iowa, and Alfred Kelch, Clarion, Iowa. A sister and five brothers preceded in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Richard Puetz officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Foster & Good funeral Home, Rochester, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
