George W. Smith Laid to Rest
Funeral Held at the Methodist Church Last Sunday Afternoon

George W. Smith was born in Bellview, Ohio, on May 13, 1845, and died at Cherokee, Iowa on December 26, 1924, at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 13 days. In the year of 1871 he came to Iowa and located at Webster City, where he engaged in the general retail business. He was located at Webster City for about seven years, when he moved to Chicago, and was engaged in business there for about a year. He returned to Webster City and there he resided until the year of 1892, when he moved to Eagle Grove, and after two years at that place he returned to Webster City. In 1904 Mr. Smith moved from Webster City to Pomeroy, where the remaining years of his life were spent. For several years he was engaged in the hotel and livery business here, retiring in 1909.

On November 20, 1877, Mr. Smith was united in marriage to Eva M. Renner at Decatur, Iowa. To this union two children were born, George Jr., of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. W.J. Julius, who preceded the father in death. Those who are left to mourn his demise are: His wife and son, five grandchildren; he is also survived by one brother, J.E. Smith of Fort Dodge. Mr. Smith always enjoyed good health until about four years ago, when he had a fall and was seriously injured, and never recovered from the effects of the fall.The funeral was held at the M.E. church here last Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Farnham, pastor of the church officiating. Interment was made in Union Cemetery, Pomeroy.
