April 23, 1996 -- November 20, 2010

James Andrew Unger was granted his angel wings on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life. The viewing and funeral will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at the Dows Community School. The viewing begins at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m.

James Andrew, or, as we called him, “Buddy”, was born in Mason City, Iowa on April 23, 1996. He spent most of his young 14 years growing up in Dows, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He spent three years attending Kingwood Middle School in Texas and was currently a freshman at N.E.H. High School. James was a vibrant, passionate, and active young man. He enjoyed football, playing outdoors and especially skateboarding, fishing and riding four-wheelers. He was a proud Hawkeye, Jeff Gordon and Steelers fan. James liked music and hanging out with friends and family. He was an amazing brother and was a blessing to those who knew him.

Little James was accompanied in death by his father James John Unger. “Buddy” leaves behind his devoted mother, Samantha Asmus of Kingwood, Texas; Mark Weidemann of Kingwood, Texas; loving big sister, Andrea Unger of Dows/Williams; adoring little brother, Joe Weidemann of Kingwood Texas; maternal grandparents James & Cathy Asmus of Kingwood, Texas; and paternal grandparents Gordon & Donna Classon and James Unger of Dows, Iowa, and many more relatives and friends.

James’s life would seem too short to many, but to those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His gentle smile could melt the hearts of those around him. With his passing he reminds others that life is to be celebrated. Although we will all miss him every day, he will forever remain in our hearts, remembering that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories
