Richard W. Wassink, 74, Plummer, Idaho

A memorial service for Richard W. Wassink, 74, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the DeSmet Longhouse at DeSmet, Idaho. Father Jerry Graham will officiate at the service. Mr. Wassink passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at his home in Plummer.

He was born Sept. 25, 1936, at Popejoy, Iowa , to Byron W. and Elvira Raska Wassink. His family moved to Tacoma in 1940, later moving to Lewiston, where Richard attended schools. He married Jackie Meyers at Lewiston in 1955. The couple made their home in the Lewiston area and the Pendleton, Ore. area, where Richard was a self-employed logger, working from New Mexico to Alaska. Richard later worked as a building contractor, working on building construction and remodeling. The couple were later divorced. Richard later married Mary Ella Barker, and they were later divorced. In 1984, Richard and Linda Kay Kitt became a couple. They were married on June 4, 2004, at Lapwai, but have spent 26 years together. The couple have made their home in Plummer for the past four years.

Survivors include his children, Derek Law of Post Falls, Idaho, Carmen Jacoby of Spokane Valley, Jerri Renee Jasper of Kapaa, Hawaii, and child of the heart Brenda Branting of Lewiston; one brother, Mike Wassink of Yakima; four sisters, Sonja Garrett of Spokane, Sharon Oshaughnessy of Clarkston, Paula Wilson of the Tri-Cities, and Patty Vernon of Clarkston; grandchildren Travis, Larissa, Ryan and Steven; grandchildren of the heart, Destinie, Lane, Tiffany, and Cody and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial Gifts may be given to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835. Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa, Wash., is handling the arrangements.
