April 29, 1920 -- August 1, 1987

John E. Berleen, 66, longtime Webster City resident, died Saturday at the Veteran's Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa. He had been in ill health for two years. Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 5 at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Vern Sorensen officiating. Burial will be in Cass Center cemetery. Flag folding services will be conducted by the American Legion. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 6 P.M.

John Edward Berleen was born April 29, 1920 on a farm in the Mulberry Center area. He attended rural schools and Webster City High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On May 5, 1951, he married Dorothy Boswell at Stanhope. The couple resided in Webster City. He worked for Arrow Acme and American Brass and Aluminum. Survivors are his wife; two sons and two daughters; six grandchildren; his mother; three brothers and four sisters, Bill of Calif., Richard, Earl, Mary (Mrs Lionel) Nicholson, all of Webster City, Violet (Mrs. Mark) Berogan of Blairsburg; Jessie (Mrs. Jack) Nicholson of Stanhope; and Erma Berleen of Webster City. He was preceded in death by a son and his father. He was a member of Mulberry Center Church and the American Legion.
