FARNHAMVILLE, IA - Doris Estle Black, 101, of South Sioux City, NE and formerly of Farnhamville, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Regency Care Center in South Sioux City, NE. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 20 at First United Church in Farnhamville with Pastor Crystal Oberheu officiating. Burial will be in Reading Township Cemetery, Farnhamville. Friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Palmer and Sons Funeral Home in Gowrie.

Surviving is her son, Paul and his wife Sherry of Grapevine, TX; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marcella Van Aspen of Renton, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Dora (Crandall) Parsons, her husband Horace (Hod) Black; brothers, Dwight and Wayne Parsons; and a sister, Lyle Parsons Black.

Doris Estle Parsons was born December 8, 1907 in Farnhamville. She was raised in Farnhamville and graduated from Rinard High School. She then continued her education and completed her LPN training in 1927. Doris was united in marriage to Horace Black in Rowan, Iowa on November 24, 1934. They established their home in Knierim and later relocated to Farnhamville, where they farmed until 1977. In 1992, Estle and Horace moved to South Sioux City, NE to be close to their son Paul. She was a member of the First United Church of Farnhamville, was an Aid at the Church, and also was a member of the Senior Citizen of Farnhamville and South Sioux City. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
