BELMOND, IA - Connie (Corrine) Kay Watne, 59, of Belmond, lost her battle with cancer on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Mary Greeley Medical center in Ames. Funeral services for Connie will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond with Pastor Troy Pflibsen officiating. Interment will take place in the Belmond Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 5 until 7 p.m, Wednesday at the Andrews Funeral Home, 516 1st Street S.E., Belmond, and visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday.

Connie was born on Jan. 26, 1951, to Richard and Florence (Norby) Thompson and grew up in Kanawha. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1969. Connie attended two years of college at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. In August of 1971, Connie was united in marriage to Craig Watne. To that union, four children were born. Early in her marriage she worked at Central Soya in Belmond and Farmer's Grain Elevator. Later in her career she worked at Master Mix in Belmond and then pursued an opportunity at Principal Financial Group in Mason City. Most recently she worked at Siemens Water Technologies in Ames. Connie enjoyed watching her children grow up and spending time with her six grandchildren. She will be remembered by her beautiful smile and her kind heart.

Connie is survived by her husband, Craig of Belmond; a son, Jeremy (Jennifer) Watne of Fishers, Ind.; daughters, Michelle (Grant) Simon of Bartlett, Ill.; Andrea (Jeremiah) Johnson of Lehigh, Rachael Watne of Urbandale. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Drew, Luke and Brooke Watne, and Kyle, Jordan, and Collin Johnson; brother, Doug (Barb) Thompson of Kanawha, sister Kris (Dave) Mehmen of West Des Moines; four sister-in-laws, Marcia Kolbeck of Ashton, Susan (Leland) Halfpop of Goodell, Phebe (Charles) Soma of Belmond, and Norma (Jerry) McNertney of Nevada; three brother-in-laws, Mark Peller of Mesa, Ariz., Jon Jay Watne of Belmond, Ted Watne of Belmond and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Florence (Norby) Thompson, father and mother in law John and Evelyn (Case) Watne, sister, Ramona Peller, sister-in-laws, Betty Watne and Barb Watne, and brother-in-law Earl Kolbeck. Memorials will be left to the discretion of the family. Andrews Funeral Homes, Belmond, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
