Laura Isabelle Matteson was born December 22, 1922 in Renwick, daughter of Joseph Ernest and Maude Belle (Packard) Janes. She grew up in Renwick graduating from Renwick High School in 1940. Laura then attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing graduating in 1944. Laura served as a nurse in the United States Army during WWII stationed in the Philippines at the 311th General Hospital. Laura was united in marriage to Darrell Woodrow Matteson on June 6, 1948 in Britt, Iowa. They lived their entire married life in Renwick where Laura worked for Dr. Sutton and Dr. Lee. Laura enjoyed taking photos, gardening, reading, and knitting. She was a member of the Renwick United Methodist Church being active throughout the years in the Literary Guild, the UMW, and Sunday School.

Laura I. Matteson died Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Humboldt Care Center North at the age of 87. She had been a resident there since December, 2009. She is survived by one son, Jon Matteson and his wife Carolyn of Thor; a son-in-law, Gene Stone of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren, Meredith Stone of Omaha, NE, Hillarey Stone of Kirksville, MO, Nicholas Stone of Lincoln, NE, Jim Baker of Omaha, NE, Tony Matteson of Cedar Rapids, and Tracey Toenjes and her husband John of Waterloo. She is also survived by one sister, Joanne Doherty and her husband Jim of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Robert Janes of Renwick; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Darrell on October 9, 1993; a daughter, Mona Kathryn in infancy; a daughter, Patricia Stone on May 29, 2007; a brother, Joe Janes; and a sister, Blanche Hofmeister.
