LEONA IRENE (REDMOND) VRANA

April 9, 1939 - November 2, 2010

Leona Irene Vrana was born April 9, 1939, the daughter of Reece and Jerushia Wilson Redmond. She passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of seventy-one. Irene was born in Belmond, Iowa, where she received her education and graduated from Belmond Community High School. She worked for the Trojan Seed Company in Sac City, Iowa, for three years and as a teacher's aid in 1974 in Denison. On June 8, 1958, she was united in marriage to Howard Vrana at the Methodist Church in Belmond. They were blessed with the birth of four daughters, Lorna, Rita, Rhonda and Paula. The couple settled into their first home in 1958, living briefly at Sac City, LeMars, Orange City, George, Holstein, and more for six years before moving to Sac City in May 1964. There they bought land and another new larger 1962 model home where they lived for 10 years. In June 1974 they moved to Denison, Iowa.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. To her children she was the best Mother in the world. They knew where they could always find her because "Mother was home." She was a wonderful homemaker, enjoying cooking, baking and housecleaning. She loved getting recipes from family and friends, and always had enough food for everyone. Going to her children's homes was a favorite thing to do and bringing them homemade zucchini bread and jelly. She found joy in a variety of activities including flower gardening, working on pictures and family history, and square dancing with her husband. Together they enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved music and beautiful things, especially "sparkly things."

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard in 2006; and two brothers: Robert Redmond and Paul Redmond. Survivors include four daughters: Lorna and her husband, David; Rita and her husband, Garry; Rhonda; and Paula and her husband, Lenny; five grandchildren: Kristopher, Amber, Dylan, Sabrina and Samantha; four great-grandchildren: Gage, Lesslie, Tyler and Khloe; other relatives, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2010, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and graveside rites at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided accompaniment for musical selections, "Peace In The Valley," "On Eagles' Wings" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet The Sound." Honorary pallbearers were Lenny Chilldres and Larry Farley. Serving as pallbearers were Loren Skinner, Amber Rouse, Dylan Top, Garry Quandt, Dave Kremin and Kris Kremin. The family invited everyone to Zion Lutheran Church for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
