GUSTAVUS, Ohio - M. Alice Riley, 100, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at her home. She was born on June 6, 1910, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Myrtle (Nicholls) and Finis Peters. Mrs. Riley graduated from Orient High School, in Iowa and earned a Bachelor's degree in education from Simpson College in 1930. She taught music in Iowa for ten years. On July 26, 1940, she married Dr. Rev. Bruce T. Riley. They moved to Gustavus, Ohio in 1954, where she taught at Youngstown College. Then from 1952 until retiring in 1972 - she taught within the surrounding school districts.

Mrs. Riley is preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Dr. Rev. Bruce T. Riley; infant brother, Arthur Peters; three brothers, Bruce, Raymond and Richard Peters. Survivors include two daughters, Alice E. (Ken) Kraus of Marysville, OH and Margaret A. (Paul) Neves of Fort Collins, CO; a step-daughter, Patricia Irwin of Boulder, CO; seven grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, Iowa. Foust Funeral Homes & Cremation of Eagle Grove & Goldfield in charge of local arrangements.

GUSTAVUS, Ohio - M. Alice Riley, 100, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at her home. She was born June 6, 1910, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Myrtle Nicholls and Finis Peters. Mrs. Riley began her education in a one-room schoolhouse, graduated from Orient High School in Iowa and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Simpson College in 1930 at the age of 20. She taught music in Iowa for 10 years. On July 26, 1940, she married Dr. Rev. Bruce T. Riley. They moved to Gustavus in 1954. She taught at Youngstown College, then from 1952 until she retired in 1972, she taught within the surrounding school districts.

Mrs. Riley was a member of the Gustavus Federated Church. She served on the family service board for six years and served as trustee for the Kinsman Free Public Library for 21 years. Mrs. Riley was a member of the D.A.R., O.E.S., Gustavus Historical Society, Gustavus Grange, Gustavus Community Aid, Ohio Cultural Alliance, American Carriage Association and the Philosophy Circle at Youngstown State University.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice E. (Ken) Kraus of Marysville and Margaret A. (Paul) Neves of Fort Collins, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Irwin of Boulder, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Dirk and Matthew Kraus, Daniel and Luiz Neves, and Laurie, Christy and Dave Irwin; and nine great-grandchildren, Ryan and Nichole Sellden, Ashley Gallovich, Noah Irwin, Jayden, Riley and Alia Draus, and David and Nicholas Neves. Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband of 46 years, Dr. Rev. Bruce T. Riley; an infant brother, Arthur Peters; and three brothers, Bruce, Raymond and Richard Peters.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Gustavus Federated Church, 8850 state Route 193, Gustavus, Ohio, with Rev. Karl Bucey officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield, Iowa. Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsman Free Public Library, P.O. Box 166, Kinsman, Ohio 44428, or to the Gustavus Federated Church, P.O. Box 5, Farmdale, Ohio 44417.
