Duane Ray Schipull, the son of Carl F. and Laura Belle (Yanney) Schipull, was born September 12, 1935, in Goldfield, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Goldfield High School in 1953. He attended the University Of Iowa for three years before serving in the Army from 1956 to 1958. He pitched for the Fort Gordon Ramblers while in the service. After the service, he signed with the Baltimore Orioles to train with their farm team. He threw out his shoulder and returned to the Goldfield area where he eventually began farming the family farm.

On March 1, 1964, Duane was united in marriage with Sandra Jeanne Hanson at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. The couple made their home in Goldfield. He had a great love for his family and was very involved in their activities growing up, especially coaching little league. Duane was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goldfield, the Goldfield American Legion, Oakridge and loved playing cards on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He was an avid sports fan – baseball was a special passion with golf a close second.

Duane passed away at the Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City on Monday, November 1, 2010, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident, at the age of 75 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Laura Schipull and brother, Harlan Schipull. Survivors include his wife, Sandy Schipull; daughter, Dana Halvorson and husband Lee of Northwood; sons, Greg Schipull of Goldfield and Jeff Schipull wife Jen of Belle Plaine, MN; three grandchildren: Brett, Robyn and Lauren Halvorson as well as a host of additional family and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield with Pastor Christina Perkins officiating. Visitation is Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Goldfield man dies in crash north of Webster City

A two-accident north of Webster City Monday claimed the life of a Goldfield man.

Duane Schipull, 75, died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash, according to the Iowa State Patrol. Schipull was reportedly heading eastbound on 210th Street when his 1997 Chrysler collided with a 2004 Dodge, driven by Bronson Andrew, 28, Fort Dodge. According to authorities, Schipull was making a left turn when his auto struck Andrew's car. The Iowa State Patrol and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department are handling the investigation.
