Funeral Held Here For Mrs. Grace Deters
Mrs. Grace Deters passed away Monday morning, October 12 at the Oakhaven Nursing Home in Arlington, Texas, due to complications of advanced age. She reached the age of 85 years, five months and seven days. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Pastor John H. Elenbaas officiated. Two selections were sung by a mixed quartet, Mrs. Ivan Slifer, Mrs. Harold Okones, Willis Nederhoff and Roger Nederhoff. Mrs. Clarence Beecroft was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Jennie Ross and Miss Ordie Beecroft. Pallbearers were Harold Eekhoff, Edwin Bakker, Edward Eekhoff, Carl J. Nederhoff, Wilbur Knock and Fred Eiten. The interment service was held in Shiloh cemetery [Wellsburg, Iowa]. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Grace was born on a farm in Shiloh Township, west of Wellsburg on May 5, 1896, the daughter of Peter and Eda (Wienenga) Eekhoff. She attended the rural school in the area. On April 25, 1918, she was united in marriage to Adolph Deters at the First Christian Reformed Church parsonage by the Rev. H. C. Bode. Following their marriage they moved to a farm in Wright County, Iowa, and later moving back to the Wellsburg area where they lived on various farms. They retired from the farm in 1957 and moved to Wellsburg. Mr. Deters passed away June 23, 1972. In August of 1976, she entered the Nursing Home in Arlington, Texas, to make her home. Mrs. Deters was a long-time member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having joined by letter of transfer, on August 8, 1938, from the First Christian Reformed Church. She was a long-time active member of the Willing Workers Society of the church, as long as her health permitted.
Preceding her in death were: her parents, her husband, eight brothers and sisters, (Jennie), Mrs. Claus Ruter; Boyd Eekhoff; (Gertie), Mrs. Ben Ruter; (Pearl), Mrs. John Eckhoff; (Martha), Mrs. John M. Bakker; Henry Eekhoff; Peter P. Eekhoff; (Helen), Mrs. Anko Janssen and two brothers and one sister in infancy. Those left to mourn her passing are: her daughter (Carolyn) Mrs. David Harper of Arlington, Texas; three grandchildren, Perry Paxton of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; Palmer Paxton of Wellsburg; Kathiann Grace Harper of Arlington, Texas; five great grandchildren, Tracy and Trudy Paxton, children of the Perry Paxton's; Logan, Sam and Jill LaVonne, children of the Palmer Paxton's; one sister, Mrs. John H. (Anna) Ruter of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
