Adolph Deters Died Friday -- Funeral Monday

Funeral services for Adolph Deters, were held on Monday afternoon, June 26, 1972 at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Rev. John H. Elenbaas was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Harold Okones and Thomas Claassen sang two duet numbers. Mrs. Esther Beecroft was organist. Flower attendants were Miss Sadie Behrends and Miss Ordie Beecroft. Pall bearers were Rodney Deters, Arnold Nederhoff, Dale Geerdes, Alvin Blythe, Harold Eekhoff and Carl J. Nederhoff. Interment was made in Shiloh cemetery at Wellsburg.

Adolph Deters passed away Friday morning, June 23, 1972 at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center following a lingering illness. He had been taken to the nursing home on June 2nd. He reached the age of 75 years, 4 months and 7 days.

He was born on a farm in German Township, northwest of Wellsburg, on February 16, 1897, the son of Hemmo and Grietje (Van Deest) Deters. He attended the rural school in the area, and later attended college at Dubuque. On April 25, 1918, he was united in marriage to Miss Grace Eekhoff at the First Christian Reformed Church parsonage by Rev. Bode. Following their marriage they moved to a farm in Wright County, Iowa and later moved back to the Wellsburg area where they lived on various farms. They retired from the farm in 1957 and moved to Wellsburg. He was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg. He served on the church consistory both as an elder and a deacon. They were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on April 25, 1968 with their family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Grace; 1 daughter, Carolyn, Mrs. David Harper of Arlington, Texas; 3 grandchildren: Perry Paxton of San Antonio, Texas; Palmer Paxton of Marshalltown; Kathiann Grace Harper of Arlington, Texas; 1 great grandchild, Logan Michael Paxton, son of the Palmer Paxtons; 2 sisters and 2 brothers: Hemmo Deters of Iowa Falls; William Deters of Eldora; (Gepka) Mrs. Peter H. Nederhoff of Wellsburg; Mrs. Martha Geerdes of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
