Dixie Lee Wood was born October 4, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Jeanette (Gregory) Wessels. She grew up and attended school in Mason City graduating from the Mason City High School in 1954. On September 6, 1953, Dixie was united in marriage to Willis Wood at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Willis later entered the military and the couple moved around during that time before eventually settling in Stilson in 1970. In 1973, they moved to Corwith where they remained living until moving to the Summit House in Britt, Iowa, in June of 2009. Dixie enjoyed watching birds, doing jig-saw puzzles and being outside working with her flowers. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Corwith.

Dixie died Sunday, September 19, 2010, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa. She was 73. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Willis Wood of Britt; children, Timothy Wood and wife Siobhan of Bettendorf; Teresa and husband Gary Osby of Atlantic; Todd Wood and wife Deanna of Sheldon. Also surviving are grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a sister, Beverly and husband Roger Ennis of Mason City and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Jeanette.
