Marvin Verdell Johnson, "Starvin Marvin" 66 years old, died on September 16, 2010 in a single motor vehicle accident near Buffalo, Wyoming. Mr. Johnson was born November 21, 1943 in Racine, Minnesota to Ingvald and Pearl Johnson. He attended Wykoff Elementary School and Engen Grade School in Rock Dell, Minnesota and Southern School of Agriculture High School in Waseca, Minnesota. After High School, he entered the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Nurnberg, Germany from 1961-1964. Upon returning from the military, Marvin purchased a Vernon Creamery milk route and drove the milk route until 1965. He then signed on with Sizer Trucking as a truck driver until 1968 when he moved to Belmond, Iowa to help his brother open and operate a black top plant. In 1970, he took a job as a mechanic with I-35 Truck Stop in Williams Iowa until 1977. He moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in 1978 and started his current business, “Starvin’ Marvin’s Lawn Care” business. The Sheridan Press proclaimed Marvin as “The Good Samaritan” in December 2008 because he blew out the sidewalk along Coffeen Avenue when the county trucks could not get out and kept the people of Sheridan safe. Marvin was not only known for his exceptional mechanical abilities, but also for his baking skills. If you could name it, he could bake it: cookies, pies, breads, cinnamon rolls, and doughnuts, just to name a few. Marvin was baptized a Lutheran in 1943 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stewartville, Minn. and confirmed at East St. Olaf Church in Rock Dell Minnesota in 1958. He was a member of the Eagle's Lodge and “Wayne's World.”
Marvin was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl in 2009, his father, Ingvald in 1967, nephews, Frank Simmons and Tony Johnson. He is survived by 4 brothers and 3 sisters: ElDean (Linda) Johnson, Duluth; LaMar (Perri Bartley) Johnson, Zumbro Falls; Larry K. Johnson, Rochester; Paraleen (Ronald) Pew, Rochester; LuAnn (Wayne) Kurpjuweit, Sheridan WY; Royal Johnson, Stewartville; Sandee Johnson, Rochester; 24 nieces and nephews (Jw Kurpjuweit, Colin Chong), Calif.; Shawna (JC) Rankin, Sheridan; Krystle (Andrew) Newman, Sheridan, Bret (Sharon) Krueger, and 28 great-nephews and nieces.
