KANAWHA, IA — David A. Abbas, 69, of Kanawha died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 at his home. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street, in Kanawha. A graveside service will follow at 6:30 p.m. at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha with Pastor Steve Schulz officiating.

David Allen Abbas was born on Sept. 27, 1940, at Belmond Memorial Hospital to George and Alice (Thompson) Abbas of Kanawha. David was the eldest of three boys. David graduated from Kanawha High School in 1958. David attended college at Upper Iowa University for one year before coming home to help his father farm. In 1959 David was hired to work for the Hancock County Bridge Crew and from there operated heavy equipment. After working for 39 ½ years for the county, David retired in 1999. David was united in marriage to Lois Jean Michelson of Kanawha on July 20, 1962. They had two children, Tracy and Dan. David had a life long passion for hunting and fishing as well as trapping over the years. He enjoyed flowers and yard work.

David is survived by two brothers, Tom Abbas of Waterloo and Bob Abbas of Cedar Falls; his two children; Tracy Abbas Lillard of Van Meter, Iowa, and Dan Abbas of Kanawha and three grandchildren Katie Brown, Jake Abbas and Briana Abbas. Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street, Kanawha, Iowa.
