Venice Ann Puffer was born on April 10, 1935 in Hastings, Nebraska to Howard Lewis and Bernice Ann (Moore) Varney. Venice attended school in Hanlontown, Iowa and moved to Algona in 1953. She worked with child care and on August 15, 1954, Venice was married to Jerry Puffer in Corwith, Iowa. Venice enjoyed plants, flowers and visiting with friends. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Algona. Venice died on Sunday, December 21, 2003 at the Titonka Care Center where she had been a resident for 5 days. She was 68. Survivors include her husband Jerry of Algona; daughter Rhonda Mathews and husband Garth of Litchfield Park, Arizona; son Rock Puffer and wife Kathy of Shepherd, Michigan; son Jeffrey of Algona; daughter Patricia Culbertson of Algona and son Jim Puffer of Sioux City, Iowa. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, one sister Vila Emerson and husband Ralph of Omaha, Nebraska and brother Lewis Varney and wife Georgia of Ralston, Nebraska. Venice was preceded in death by her parents, an infant grandson, one brother Billy Dale Varney and sister Minnie Mae Johnson.
