ALGONA, IA — A funeral service for Sybil B. Dangelser will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Algona, with Reverend Steve McElroy officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Algona. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona and will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Sybil Berna Dangelser was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Ames, daughter of Marion Arlo and Ada Pearl (Tilley) Kuhn. Sybil grew up in the Ames, Belmond and Clarion areas, graduating from Clarion High School on May 22, 1947. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College and received her B.S. Degree from Drake University. Sybil was united in marriage to Nicolas Dangelser on June 20, 1953, at Belmond. She taught school in Blairsburg and Vinton before joining the staff at Burt Community School as a kindergarten teacher in 1953. She taught at Burt until her retirement in 1991.

Sybil enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting and crocheting, gardening and raising flowers, boating, fishing, playing cards and visiting with her family and friends. After retirement she additionally enjoyed traveling with her husband and granddaughter. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Algona. She became a resident of Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge in July 2009 and her husband faithfully spent every day by her side. Sybil B. Dangelser died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1910, at Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge, at the age of 81.

She is survived by her husband Nick, of Algona; a daughter Sonja Rash and her husband, Daryl, of Humboldt; a granddaughter, Megan Rash, a student at Wartburg College in Waverly; a sister, Evelyn Stecher and her husband, John, of Des Moines; a brother, Marvin J. Kuhn and his wife, Betty, of New Bloomfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona in charge of arrangements.
