MASON CITY, IA -- Galen E. Bunting, 82, of 2340 21st St. S.W., died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. David Shogren officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be given to the Galen E. Bunting Memorial Fund.
Glen E. Bunting was born March 28, 1913, in rural Corwith, the son of Ira Bunting and Laura Estle (nee) Dunfee Bunting. Galen graduated from Britt High School in 1933. Galen married Esther Gordon on Sept. 9, 1936, in Mason City. They farmed in London, Minn,. for a couple of years, then moved to Mason City and Britt and returned to Mason City in 1947. Glen then worked for the Lehigh Portland Cement Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1976. Glen enjoyed bowling and traveling. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the Odd Fellows. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Lehigh Employee Retirement Group.
Survivors include three daughters, Ilene Smit and her husband, Duane, of Sheffield; Judy Hostetler and her husband, Randal, of Marlette, Mich., and Marilyn Nichols and her husband, Alan, Davenport; one granddaughter, Mari Nichols of Iowa City; three grandsons, Trent Hostetler of Saginaw, Mich.; Jeff Nichols of Chicago, Ill., and Glen Bunting of Santa Clara, Calif.; one great-granddaughter, Shannon Leila Hostetler; and one sister, Verola Olson of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther Bunting in 1993; one son, Richard D. Bunting; and one brother.
