Ethel V. Hartin, 95, of La Porte City, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, April 12, 2010 at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center. A private family service with be held at a later date, there will be no visitation.Ethel was born Oct. 1, 1914 in Fort Dodge, Iowa the daughter of Danish parents, Emil and Meta Madsen Sorensen. She attended Corwith High School, graduating in 1933. She enrolled in nursing school at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa graduating in 1936 with an RN degree. Ethel continued to work at Iowa Lutheran Hospital for nine years. She married Tom Hartin in 1937. In 1945 she and Tom moved to Clear Lake where she worked at Mercy Hospital in Mason City until 1953. She then became the school nurse for the Clear Lake Schools, retiring in 1972. She and her husband then had the chance to enjoy being snow birds in Apache Junction, Az. She is survived by one daughter, Joann Niemeyer of La Porte City; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one brother, Charles Sorensen of Corwith, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Sharon Lee Ward and one brother, Marion Sorensen. La Porte City Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
