LEO E. GREGSON SUCCUMBS HERE
Leo E. Gregson, 81, of 617 Spring Street, died this morning at a local hospital of a heart condition. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Leslie O. Warner, minister of the Grinnell First Friends church, officiating. Interment will be in the IOOF cemetery at Montezuma.
The son of John and Ruth Ann Roberts Gregson, he was born at Kimball, S.D., on April 21st, 1884. When he was a young child, the family moved to the Ewart, Iowa, neighborhood to a farm. He attended the schools near his home.
Feb. 23, 1905, he was married to Agnes Aleanor (Lena) Souter at Ewart. To this union were born six children, five of whom survive: Mrs. Edith Foster of Marengo; Willard L. Gregson of Algona; Mrs. Glenn (Lavell) Cashmere of Tucson, Ariz.; Mrs. Ernest (Opal) Bonstetter of Corwith; and Kenneth W. Gregson of Mason City. Their mother passed away on Jan. 12th, 1917. Mr. Gregson was married to Eva Hutchison on Feb. 14th, 1918, in Grinnell and to this union two sons were born, one of whom survives, Donald E. Gregson of Livermore, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Gregson farmed near Ewart and later moved to Corwith, Iowa, to farm for 13 years. In 1932, they returned to Grinnell to make their home. He was employed with the City of Grinnell. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Lodge No. 175 of Grinnell.
Surviving besides his wife and six children are 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena; two sons, Cecil C. Gregson in 1956 and Robert Gregson in infancy; one grandchild; one brother, Wilbur; and two sisters, Effie and Grace.
